The economy is a major piece of what keeps our state stable and strong. So, it’s no surprise that Kansans almost always mention the economy as one of the most important factors when they think about who to vote for.
But the more I actually talk to people about this, the more questions I ask, one thing becomes very clear– they mean their own economy. Their personal economic situation is what affects them more than any other singular issue.
No matter who you are and what tax bracket you fall into, we are all in a constant fight to simply achieve financial peace. For some, that means the ability to get away with loved ones on occasional trips and vacations. For others, financial peace simply means eliminating their stress about paying for the next meal or the next rent or mortgage payment. When we aren’t constantly worrying about what bills are outstanding or what payments are coming up next, we are able to enjoy this beautiful state and enjoy spending time with loved ones.
I am hopeful that with a combination of some hard work, critical thinking, and empathy for these different lived realities, the Kansas House can come up with solutions to address this problem. Whether it is tackling the minimum wage, passing tax relief work working class folks, or making sure corporations and millionaires pay their fair share of taxes– solutions exist. And new solutions are possible!
